Having been sewing for over 35 years I decided about 5 years ago to give patchwork and quilting a try, and very quickly became hooked. The array of gorgeous fabrics was astounding and soon I was hunting out quilting fabric wherever I went.
I started out learning the basics of creating a block to turn into a cushion cover, several cushion covers later I felt able to tackle a lap sized quilt.
While attending a group of quilting classes a couple of years ago I met some lovely ladies who have become firm friends. When the classes ended we formed our own group, calling ourselves the Unpickers as we seemed to be doing a lot of unpicking at first. We meet on a regular basis to swap ideas and tips, show off what we’ve created and maybe eat cake. It’s fun to sew with like-minded people in a happy and relaxed atmosphere, ignoring any chores left at home.
Gradually I became interested in bag making and loved the idea of being able to customise the size, shape and amount of pockets to suit my needs. As they make great gifts my friends were soon receiving bags of various shapes and sizes.
While I looked around for ideas and inspiration I discovered free motion embroidery and applique, which I have to admit is my favourite technique at the moment. I incorporate it into cushions, bags and quilts as well as making pictures out of fabric and thread.
If you fancy trying your hand at any of these techniques call in and have a chat & a cuppa or give me a ring on
